Extended Validity Periods

Home » Extended Validity Periods

An extension period is triggered only if a province emergency is declared under the EMCPA. As a third province-wide declaration of emergency had been made, the validity period has been extended for certain licences issued. Since the extended validity periods due to the second and third province-wide emergencies overlap, please take note of the updated periods:

Licences issued between December 1,2019 and July 24, 2020 are still valid
and can be used until July 24, 2022;

Licences issued between October 1,2020 and December 31,2020 are still
valid and can be used until February 1O, 2023;

and

Licences issued between January 1, 2021 and the end of the third province wide emergency due to GOVID-19 will be valid from the date they are issued until 24 months from the end of the third province-wide emergency.

Note: the validity period for marriage licences issued between July 25, 2020 and September 30,2020 has NOT been extended. These licences were only valid for three months from the date issued since there was no province-wide emergency during this timeframe.

If, for any reason, couples did not use their licence issued during this
timeframe and still wish to be married, they will need to purchase another one.
